For chemical companies, tank cleaning is a cornerstone of the logistics process for which safety, quality, operational efficiency and compliance need to be safeguarded.
An important milestone was the introduction of the European Cleaning Document (ECD) back in 2005 to satisfy the needs of cleaning stations, transport companies, chemical-, feed- and food-manufacturing companies and their customers.
In 2018, the digital version of the EFTCO Cleaning Document or eECD was built. This is a joint digitalization project coordinated by ECLIC (European Chemical Logistics Information Council) and funded by essenscia, ECTA (European Chemical Transport Association) and EFTCO (European Federation of Tank Cleaning Organisations) in collaboration with Cefic. The IT data sharing platform and application got further developed as a real “eECD pilot project” and this in close cooperation with NxtPort, Nallian and Pionira.
In 2019, the last pilot enhancements got completed successfully and the new digital eECD process moved to a live production environment with a core network of around 20 Chemical, Transport, Tank Storage and Cleaning companies. In October 2019, the project won the European Responsible Care Award. With this annual award, the European Industry Council Cefic recognises initiatives that promote safety, health and environmental care in the European chemical sector.
