Every talent counts. The industry and joint training fund Co-valent has included the Dutch/French in the workplace course in the free training programme it makes available to employees in the industry in order to foster a sustainable integration of non-native speakers in the chemistry and life sciences industry. For an industry in which safety is the top priority, it is critical to have a basic knowledge of the language that colleagues are speaking with one another and in which work instructions are written.
The number of employees registered for this language immersion in the workplace has been increasing in recent years. Last year, some forty employees from various companies in the industry benefited from free support, provided by a coach from VDAB or one of our other partners, to improve not only their understanding of the specialist jargon in the workplace but also their communication with colleagues. On average, each person received 20 hours of training, organised on the job in conjunction with the company.
